EOD1 Sean P. Carson was born on July 27, 1980 in Redmond, WA. Sean entered active duty on May 28, 1999 and reported to Naval Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois to complete Boot Camp and Parachute Rigger “A” School. He then reported to his first command, Fleet Readiness Center Southwest, Detachment Point Mugu, CA. While assigned to Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Training and Evaluation Unit ONE, he applied and was accepted for EOD training, beginning on November 6, 2007. He graduated as a Basic EOD Technician on January 26, 2009. In May 2009, Sean transferred to EOD Mobile Unit THREE based in San Diego, CA. Due to his outstanding performance, he was assigned to Platoon 3-7-1 supporting Naval Special Warfare (NSW) Squadron FIVE and deployed to Iraq and Bahrain in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom, New Dawn, and Enduring Freedom. Following that successful deployment, EOD1 Carson was assigned to Platoon 3-3-1 as an EOD Team Leader and prepared for deployment to Afghanistan. EOD1 Carson selflessly volunteered to fill a critical manpower gap on another Platoon (3-8-1) and was immediately deployed to Afghanistan supporting NSW Squadron THREE. Initially deploying to Ghazni Province with an element from the U.S. Army’s Third Special Forces Group, EOD1 Carson was shifted to Kandahar Province and conducted combat operations with Charlie Platoon, SEAL Team THREE, and Afghanistan National Army Commandos.

EOD1 Carson’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with Valor device, Purple Heart, Army Achievement Medal, Navy Achievement Medal (2), Combat Action Ribbon, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Navy Unit Commendation (2), Navy “E” Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal (4), National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and numerous other personal and unit decorations.
