SSG Chauncy R. Mays

Staff Sergeant Chauncy R. Mays was born on December 7, 1985 in Sulphur Springs, Texas.  He enlisted in the Army on June 17, 2004 and began his career as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Technician with the 763rd  EOD Company at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.  While assigned to the 763rd EOD Company, Staff Sergeant Mays completed a six-month deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in August of 2006, and a 14-month deployment in June of 2008.  He deployed to Afghanistan in November 2010 as an EOD Team Leader with the 705th EOD Company of Fort Polk, Louisiana in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Staff Sergeant Mays’ awards and decorations include three Bronze Star Medals, Purple Heart Medal, Army Commendation Medal, two Army Achievement Medals, three Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Non Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, Combat Action Badge, Senior EOD Badge, and Driver’s Badge.

Staff Sergeant Mays is survived by his wife Katherine, daughters Kiley and Chesnee, and parents Thomas Mays and Alyson Rodgers.
