First Lieutenant Mack Thomas Jarrett was born in Melrose, Kansas on April 13, 1920. He was the son of Harry and Martha Jarrett. First Lieutenant Jarrett’s given name was Thomas Mack Jarrett. He was brother to Naoma, Martha Jean, Nedra Jo, and Harry Robert. He graduated from Chetopa High School, Chetopa, Kansas on May 20, 1938. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on August 14, 1940 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
First Lieutenant Jarrett graduated from the Army’s Ordnance Bomb Disposal School, Class #10, Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Aberdeen, Maryland on 7 November 1942. First Lieutenant Jarrett was assigned to the 235th Ordnance Bomb Disposal Company, based on the island of Sicily, in July 1943. On November 22, 1943, while attempting to render safe a British bomb, First Lieutenant Jarrett was killed in action.
First Lieutenant Jarrett was initially survived by his parents Harry and Martha, and his siblings Naoma, Martha Jean, Nedra Jo, and Harry Robert. First Lieutenant Jarrett was reinterred on 31 March 1949: Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, Plot: Section: 2, Site 264. Today he is survived by his sister-in-law, Eleanor Jarrett and many nieces and nephews.
