Captain Paul Barkley Bowman was born on 3 September 1943 in Michigan. He commissioned in the Army in 1966. CPT Bowman was assigned as a chemical officer to a Tech Escort unit at Edgewood Arsenal Maryland. He then attended Naval School Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Indian Head, Maryland in 1968.
During his Army career, Captain Bowman received many awards. His decorations include The Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with Numeral 1, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with One Campaign Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation, Parachutist Badge, and Senior Explosive Ordnance Disposal Badge.
On Saturday, 31 January 1970, Captain Paul Barkley Bowman was aboard a helicopter that was shot down north of Tay Ninh in an area called “Mo Con Woods,” which was about eight kilometers southeast of Thien Ngon airfiend in Tay Ninh Province.
