MSgt Brad Clemmons, an explosive ordnance disposal craftsman from the 354th Civil Engineer Squadron, Eielson AFB, Alaska, was deployed to Balad AB, Iraq, with the 332nd Air Expeditionary Wing. He was assigned to the 732nd Expeditionary Civil Engineering Squadron as a weapons Intelligence Officer. He was charged with performing forensic analysis and intelligence collection, a duty he had already performed on two post-blast analysis missions, when his vehicle, part of a transportation convoy traveling to Taji, Iraq, encountered an improvised explosive device that struck his vehicle.

MSgt Clemmons was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his service during this mission.

“He was a great man,” said his wife, Rebecca, speaking at his funeral. “He loved people, he loved kids, he loved this country and he loved working for the Air Force.”

MSgt Clemmons is also survived by his children Nicholas, Zachary, Isabelle, and Gabrielle, who was born after his death, as well as his parents Pam and David Clemmons and siblings Michael, Shelley and Amy.

In 2008, the EOD facility at Eielson was dedicated in his memory.
