SFC Ralph W. Poole was killed on 3 May 1954. SFC Poole was assigned to 552nd Ordnance Detachment (Explosive Ordnance Disposal). SFC Poole was participating in a range clearance at Fort Lewis, Washington, when he picked up a projectile with a mechanical time fuze. The projectile detonated killing him instantly.
