Sgt. Jason T. Smith, 28, of Colorado Springs, Colo., died Nov. 19 2010 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Branch, Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Marine Corps Bases Japan, Iwakuni, Japan.
Jason is survived by his wife Janet of Chicago, his parents, Buddy and Loretta Smith of Colorado Springs; his two sisters, Brandi Jo of Colorado Springs and Brittany of Denver, his grandparents, Tom and Carol smith of Colorado Springs, his niece Kieley of Colorado Springs and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Jason was preceded in death by his grandparents William Allridge and Loretta Lloyd. Jason graduated from Doherty high school in 2000. He has been in the Marine Corp since June 2000. He married Janet November 22, 2005. Jason never met a stranger. He loved life, he loved people, and was proud to be a Marine. He was a member of the Marines EOD Corp. He had served two deployments in Iraq and one in Afghanistan.
