T/5 Walter E. Louthan

T/5 CPL Walter E. Louthan, Jr., was killed and T/5 CPL Clinton E. Geer was critically burned on 23 July 1945.  T/5 CPL Geer died from his injuries on 29 July 1945.  They were assigned to 33rd Ordnance (Bomb Disposal) Squad.  They were using German prisoners of war to remove a large quantity of black powder from a German black powder depot just outside of Nuremberg, Germany.  There was a sudden flash fire and explosion, which killed T/5 CPL Louthan and several German prisoners of war.  Medals:  Army of Occupation – Europe Medal.
