Staff Sergeant Mark C. Wells was born January 3, 1980 in Campbell, California. He enlisted in the Army on February 28, 2003, earned the MOS 91W, and was assigned to HHC, 1/27th Infantry, 2nd Brigade, 25th Infantry Division. While assigned to HHC, 1/27th Infantry, Staff Sergeant Wells completed a 15-month deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in February 2005. Staff Sergeant Wells graduated from Naval School Explosive Ordnance Disposal and began his career as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Technician with the 706th EOD Company at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii on April 27, 2007. He deployed to Afghanistan as an EOD Team Leader with the 74th EOD Company in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in August 2010.

Staff Sergeant Wells is survived by his wife Danielle; son Finnegan; daughter Caitlinn; parents Burl and Sharon Wells; and sisters Angie, Shannon, and Sheila.
