A2C Nelson L. Sanderson and PVT Michael A. Costagliola, USA were killed on 18 December 1957. A2C Sanderson and PVT Costagliola were students at the Naval School Explosive Ordnance Disposal (NAVSCOLEOD), Naval Ordnance Station, Indian Head, Maryland. An explosion from a 5-inch Zuni rocket fuze mortally wounded A2C Sanderson and PVT Costagliola. It is reported that PVT Costagliola had picked up the fuze when it functioned. Two Army and one Marine were slightly injured.
