SGT John P. Huling

Sergeant John P. Huling was born on May 15, 1986 in Cincinnati, Ohio.  In 2004, he graduated from Moeller High School in Cincinnati, Ohio.  He enlisted in the Marine Corps in March 2006 and attended  Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot  Parris Island, SC.  Upon completion of Recruit Training, he reported to the School of Infantry, NC, and completed Marine Combat Training.  After graduation, he reported to Electro-Optical Ordnance Repair School, where he earned the 2171 Military Occupational Specialty and graduated as a Meritorious Lance Corporal in February 2007.  He received orders to 1st  Marine Regiment, Camp Pendleton, CA and deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from July 2007 until February 2008.  He deployed again with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit from January 2009 until August 2009. Sergeant Huling re-enlisted in October of 2010 and made a lateral move to become an Explosive Ordnance Disposal  (EOD) Technician.  In November of 2010, Sergeant Huling reported to EOD Team, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, CA for on-the-job training.  In February of 2011, he reported to EOD School at Eglin AFB, FL, graduating in November.   Upon graduation, Sergeant Huling reported to 1st Platoon, 1st  EOD Company, Camp Pendleton , CA and deployed in April 2012 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. 

Sergeant Huling’s awards and decorations include the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal (2), National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal (2), Global War on Terrorism Medal, and the NATO Medal ISAF – Afghanistan.

Sergeant Huling is survived by his wife Priscilla, and his parents John and Deborah Huling.

    I had the honor of meeting JP at his graduation as my son was also in his graduating class. JP was a wonderful respectful young man. I was heartbroken when I heard he was KIA. RIP Warrior.
