SSG Daniel G. Gresham

SSG Daniel G. Gresham was killed on 24 February 2005. SSG Gresham was assigned to the 797th Ordnance Company (Explosive Ordnance Disposal), 79th Ordnance Battalion (Explosive Ordnance Disposal), 52nd Ordnance Group (Explosive Ordnance Disposal), 20th Support Command (CBRNE). SSG Gresham was killed when a second improvised explosive device detonated, while he was responding to a first device at Camp Wilson, Iraq. A small patrol encountered an improvised explosive device that functioned damaging a vehicle and injuring the driver. The driver was being loaded on a medical evacuation helicopter while the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was at the crater doing a post-blast analysis. SSG Gresham was walking up to an M1 Abrams tanks when a secondary device functioned on the shoulder of the road adjacent to the first crater. Command wires were found for both devices. SSG Gresham was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart Medal.
