TSGT Paul E. Meister

TSGT Paul Emil Meister, Jr., was killed on 10 September 1950.  TSGT Meister was killed in Pusan, South Korea.  TSGT Meister was assigned to Detachment 1, 1st Ordnance Battalion, 1st Provisional Marine Brigade (Reinforced), Fleet Marine Forces.  TSGT Meister was accidentally shot at 1650 hours, on 10 September 1950.  TSGT Meister was playing pokers with five other guys in a warehouse, when a PFC who was cleaning his M1911A1 .45 cal. pistol accidentally discharged the weapon.  The PFC was not suppose to have the weapon.  One of the poker players was Bob Carr who writes about the incident.  SSGT Toole was also hit in the shoulder by the same round after TSGT Meister was hit in the chest.  TSGT Meister died before he could be taken aboard the ship for treatment.  The Marines were waiting to load aboard the attack transport USS PICKAWAY (APA-222) for a landing at Inchon, which occurred on 15 September 1950.
